Stranded

I am onboard M/V Bay Cruiser as I write this. Cruising across Manila Bay from Corregidor to CCP complex in Manila, watching a docu on MacArthur, often looking out the window to appreciate the waves and occasional birds. Everything is right except that this should have been happening yesterday at 2:30 PM.

It’s typhoon Cosme. I had to stay another night at Corregidor Inn because of the violent waves and gusty winds. Clothes was not a problem because I always bring extra when I go to the island. I had a bigger problem in mind. Without internet there’s pretty much nothing I can do inside the hotel.

Nobody said you couldn’t fish in bad weather. So I went.

It’s my first time to fish without a pole. What we had was nylon string with a sinker at the end and 2 hooks attached to an 8 inch nylon string tied to the main line. When I was a child my bamboo fishing pole had a piece of rubber, usually a small square from an old slippers, attached to the line. If it bobs in the water it mean a fish is taking the bait. This time I had to rely on my sense of touch to catch a fish. I learned another thing. That fish meat can be used as bait. I thought only earthworms were used as baits. The colorful play-doh like baits are for the pros.

That gold fish was my first catch. They call it langay.  We sent it back to the sea after the pictorial. I had a feeling that the same fish was also my second catch. Langay is probably not a smart species. This time we used its meat for bait. The catfish lookalike was my third and final catch. I wanted to fish some more but it seemed I have run out of not so smart fish to catch.

Fooling with MacArthur after fishing. I shall return. I hope I don’t get stranded next time.

Chocolat

May 7, 2008

From Yoghurt House in Sagada - yoghurt with banana, strawberry preserves and granola.  The only reason we went back to Sagada.

Now I don’t have to go to Sagada to satisfy my craving for yoghurt and strawberry. My favorite chocolate, Cadbury,  has a new variant called dairy milk and strawberry yoghurt. Mmmm. How healthy can chocolate get.

Wouldn’t it be nice if the world was Cadbury? Wouldn’t it be nice?
